Victors Divided: America and the Allies in Germany, 1918-1923
By Keith L. Nelson
University of California Press, 1975, 441 pp.
Many general histories leave the erroneous impression that the rejection of the Versailles Treaty by the U.S. Senate in 1919-20 ended American involvement in European politics. Not so, as this excellent study of the role of American occupation troops in Germany demonstrates. The last U.S. troops withdrew in January 1923.
