Soviet economists describe the importance for the Soviet economy (including an improved standard of living as well as rate of growth) of the "new stage" in East-West economic relations reached in the 1970s. The growth of trade is the main story, but they also have something to say about industrial cooperation, joint ventures, technology transfer, and payments. Cooperation with capitalism-for the strengthening of socialism-is necessary and will continue.
