Mission to Iran

By William H. Sullivan

Norton, 1981, 296 pp.

Ambassador Sullivan, a career diplomat with extensive experience in Asia but little in the Middle East, served in Iran from 1977 until mid-1979 and witnessed the onset of the revolution and the fall of the Shah. This lucid and outspoken account describes what and how he learned about the revolution and why he disagreed with the Carter Administration, and especially Zbigniew Brzezinski, over policy.
