The Politics of Islamic Reassertion
St. Martin's, 1981, 298 pp.
It is a pity that this book will not be as widely read as Naipaul's. It is a corrective to thinking about Islamic fundamentalism in reductionist terms. The editor starts with the premise that Islam has different political manifestations in different social, economic and political circumstances. There are 12 chapters on Islam's politics in various countries, all of them written by prominent political scientists. Most are of a very high quality.
