Bitter Fruit: The Untold Story of the American Coup in Guatemala
Doubleday, 1982, 320 pp.
With enthusiasm, indignation, and much colorful detail, the authors delve into the CIA's responsibility for the overthrow of President Arbenz of Guatemala in 1954. Much stress is placed upon the role of the United Fruit Company and of exogenous influences in general. The depiction of Arbenz will strike some as sympathetic to the point of naiveté.
