The United States has been a major concern of every Canadian Prime Minister. Most American Presidents have paid little heed to Canada. That is a major difficulty in focusing on the two heads of government in a survey of Canadian-American relations since 1867. Nevertheless, this is a readable introduction based on standard secondary sources and some archival research.
