An affectionate and perceptive essay for Americans. The discussion of geography, with emphasis on the Arctic, is especially good. The treatment of Quebec, however, is somewhat superficial. Malcolm, an American of Canadian descent, was for four years correspondent in Toronto for The New York Times.
