Convened under the auspices of Chatham House, a group of British scholars takes a look at South Africa today. Considering the economic effects of sanctions, the reach of reform, the white oligarchy, the black opposition and trade unions, the security forces, constitutional alternatives and foreign policy, they voice what has become the prevailing liberal interpretation of South Africa's situation: time has probably run out on peaceful outcomes, but while we have breath left, we must go on talking about them.
