Nairobi To Vancouver: The World Council Of Churches And The World, 1975-87
By Ernest W. Lefever
Ethics and Public Policy Center, 1988, 166 pp.
In a sequel to his earlier Amsterdam to Nairobi (1979) Lefever continues his polemic against the World Council of Churches for its soft-headed pronouncements reflecting a Marxist, pro-Soviet, Third World approach to international affairs, in contrast to the principles the organization espoused when it was established at Amsterdam in 1948. The Council of Churches is an easy target, and most of Lefever's arrows hit the mark, but his own bias is so plain to see that it robs his arguments of full effect.
