War And Peace In The Nuclear Age
By John Newhouse
Knopf, 1989, 486 pp.
Written as a companion to the PBS television series, this book ranges from atomic physics in the 1930s to the end of the Reagan Administration. It is enriched by Newhouse's interviews for The New Yorker and his own past as a government insider, and it has the benefit of McGeorge Bundy's recent volume. Its fast cuts give it the flavor of a documentary film, but it is an important story told by a gifted writer.
