Franklin D. Roosevelt: A Rendezvous With Destiny
Little, Brown, 1990, 710 pp.
This distillation of decades of the author's scholarship can now stand as the best one-volume biography of FDR. The familiar events and personality are gracefully set forth for the general reader with enough new detail to attract specialists. Those who persist in believing that Roosevelt deliberately sacrificed the navy at Pearl Harbor or the freedom of Eastern Europe to Stalin will find no support here.
