Geopolitics And Geoculture: Essays On The Changing World-System
By Immanuel Wallerstein
Cambridge University Press, 1991, 242 pp.
This is a work of sociology with a grand historical sweep. Wallerstein sees the end of the Cold War as leading to the termination of Pax Americana rather than a strengthening of America's international position. He has strong doubts about the long-term future of capitalism and discusses the possibilities of a new "world culture" or civilization. There are many original and stimulating thoughts here, though the reader is left uncertain as to their ultimate significance.
