Ten Days To Destiny: The Secret Story Of The Hess Peace Initiative
Morrow, 1991, 600 pp.
A much-touted work on the dramatic lives of British appeasers and their willingness in 1940-41 to come to terms with the Nazis. The claims to novelty are much overstated, and the information gleaned from the KGB file is enticing rather than conclusive. The emphasis is on British appeasers-to what extent they encouraged Hess's flying venture remains unclear. The book does sharpen our sense for questions that remain only partially answered.
