Beyond Free Trade: Firms, Governments, and Global Competition
Edited by David B. Yoffie
Harvard Business School Press, 1993, 496 pp.
This book contains interesting studies of regulated or oligopolistic industries operating in the changing global environment of the past two to three decades. Topics include semiconductors, computers, telecommunications equipment, automobiles, bearings, construction equipment, nonferrous metals and non-life insurance. A lesson drawn is that government policy and industrial structure both help determine the observed pattern of international trade.
