This is a reprint, without alteration, of a now famous book which first appeared in 1919 in the hope that its point of view would influence the Allied statesmen then drawing up the terms of peace. Sir Halford's doctrines and geographic interpretations became historically important when they were in part adopted, twisted and exploited by Haushofer and the other German geopoliticians.
