Der Deutsche Generalstab
By Walter Görlitz
Frankfurter Hefte, 1950, 707 pp.
The first extensive history of the Prussian-German General Staff, from its origins in the seventeenth century to 1945. About half the volume is concerned with the period after 1933 and the army's position in the National Socialist régime. The reader, however, may wish there had been a broader examination of the underlying relations between the army and German society and politics.
