The Dollar Shortage
By Charles P. Kindleberger
Wiley and Technology Press, 1950, 276 pp.
As an investigation of the nature of the dollar shortage, its manifold causes and possible remedies must cover a great deal of ground, this book gives Professor Kindleberger an opportunity to examine recent thought on most aspects of international economics. While there are references to experience and to examples of particular phenomena, the approach is principally through reasoning and the application of methods of economic analysis in general terms rather than through a close study of postwar developments. It is not a book for the general reader unless he desires to work his way through a fairly tough course of current economic thought.
