France: 1940-1955

By Alexander Werth

Holt, 1956, 764 pp.

Mr. Werth, a British journalist with long experience in France, has tackled an enormously difficult subject--the political vicissitudes and development of France since the disaster of 1940. While the book is not lacking in controversial judgments on domestic and foreign affairs, it is a most interesting volume into which has gone a great deal of reading and personal knowledge.
