Economic Handbook of the Pacific Area

By Frederick V. Field
Doubleday, 1934
649 pp. $5.00

A painstaking compilation of statistical information based mainly on the yearbooks of the several countries treated. The nations covered are intended to comprise the Pacific area, but they have been selected arbitrarily. The U.S.S.R. and the United States are included: Mexico and the Central and South American countries bordering on the Pacific are excluded. Again, shipping tables for the United States do not segregate Atlantic and Pacific commerce. Generalizations based on the facts presented, therefore, cannot be considered very significant. However, the volume contains much that will be useful to those interested in the particular area of the North Pacific and who do not possess the many reference books on which it is based.
