On the Rim of the Abyss
On the Rim of the Abyss
By James T. Shotwell
Macmillan, 1936, 400 pp

A readable and authoritative history of the League's rôle as an instrument of collective security and peace by one of its most consistent defenders, who however does not hesitate to admit its failures. Professor Shotwell believes that the best method for preserving peace is to develop a system of regional security arrangements within the League framework, whereby each nation, including the United States, will assume responsibility in proportion as its interests are directly affected in a particular crisis.
