The War in Outline

By Liddell Hart
Random House, 1936
285 pp. $2.00

Probably the best brief history of the war in both its political and military aspects. Well proportioned and well knit, Captain Liddell Hart's narrative never loses sight of the forest for the trees. One has the impression on finishing it that the war would have lasted indefinitely had the material resources of the belligerent nations been commensurate with the stupidity of some of their generals.
