The Tree of Gernika
The Tree of Gernika
By G. L. Steer
Hodder, 1938, 400 pp

The author, a correspondent of the London Times, already known for his epic account of the Ethiopian War, was an eyewitness to the recent conquest of the Basque country. This record is a reportorial masterpiece in its vividness, insight and authenticity. His description of the aërial destruction of Gernika is especially graphic. This is a book that should be read by all who regard Franco as a champion of civilization and Christianity. There are numerous telling photographs and useful maps.
