Der Verratene Sozialismus

By Karl I. Albrecht
Nibelungen-Verlag, 1939
654 pp. $0.00

The author, at one time a Württemberg civil servant, turned Communist and went to Russia, where he says he became a high official in the forest and timber industry in the late twenties. On his return to Germany, the Gestapo arrested him. When released he went to Turkey and then Switzerland. Yet this book was published in Germany and has had a wide sale there. Whether his experiences are authentic or not is difficult to judge, but his many photographs of chaotic industrial conditions and the activities of forced labor in the pre-Five Year Plan days will be found interesting.
