The End of Economic Man: a Study of the New Totalitarianism

By Peter F. Drucker

Mr. Drucker, formerly an editor of the Frankfurter General Anzeiger, believes that in Europe both capitalism and socialism are doomed, for neither has managed to provide the mass of the people with security and well-being. The resultant disillusionment has paved the way for the essentially non-economic doctrines of the Fascist and Nazi states. The better part, both quantitatively and qualitatively, of Mr. Drucker's text is devoted to an illuminating -- if not entirely acceptable -- analysis of the totalitarian systems.
