No foreigner can speak on Russian subjects with greater authority than Sir Bernard Pares, more than thirty years professor of Russian language and history at Liverpool and London Universities and author of several important books. In this work Sir Bernard draws on his extensive personal experiences in Russia and his researches covering many years to reconstruct the history of the progressive breakdown in the power and prestige of the Romanov dynasty from 1914 to 1917.
