The Earth and the State: a Study of Political Geography

By Derwent Whittlesey

Holt, 1939, 618 pp.

The field of political geography has only begun to be cultivated in this country. The present book, by a professor of geography at Harvard University, is the best one so far to appear on the subject. The author manages on the whole to eschew the facile rationalizations that characterize German "geopolitics." His most original section is that on Africa.
