Within Germany

By Oswald Garrison Villard
Appleton-Century, 1940
87 pp. $1.00

Mr. Villard has known Germany well throughout his long and active career as journalist and editor. This brief report on his visit there shortly after the outbreak of the present war is of particular interest since he seems to have been given fairly free rein as to where he went and whom he saw. He concludes that Germany cannot win because "humanity, human decency and dignity forbid it."
