Behind God's Back

By Negley Farson
Harcourt, 1941
555 pp. $3.50

In this highly informative book the author of "The Way of a Transgressor" records his experiences and impressions gained on a trip through several parts of Africa which he made shortly before the present war. Starting in Southwest Africa, Mr. Farson visited the Union of South Africa, Tanganyika, Kenya, Uganda, the Belgian Congo, French Equatorial Africa, the Cameroons and the Gold Coast. His book does not pretend to be a systematic treatise on those places; but in spite of its episodic and personal character it manages to tell a great deal about the political and economic problems of sub-Saharan Africa.
