Retreat with Stilwell
Retreat with Stilwell
By Jack Belden
Knopf, 1943, 368 pp

In this book Mr. Belden, who covered the Burma campaign for Time and Life, has given us one of the more graphic and cogent books on the fighting in Asia. He not only describes the military operations of the campaign but analyzes and exposes the underlying political and psychological shortcomings of the British régime in Burma which he believes made the disaster inevitable.
