Vichy: Two Years of Deception
Vichy: Two Years of Deception
By León Marchal
Macmillan, 1943, 251 pp

A highly informative account of the personalities, events and methods which characterized the Pétain régime, with and without Laval, during the period when the pretense of an "unoccupied" France was maintained. The author served in the French diplomatic service under Vichy, first in North Africa and then in Washington. When Laval returned to power in 1942, Marchal resigned in order to join the Fighting French.
