South of the Congo

By Selwyn James
Random House, 1943
347 pp. $3.00

A young journalist probes into some of the less pleasant aspects of life in South Africa -- particularly the native problem -- and comes out with this forthright report on what he found. Much of it does not make for cheerful reading and it will cause anguish among Boer Nationalists; but its revelations are too circumstantial to be dismissed or ignored.
