In these letters to his father, the Roman Catholic Archbishop of New York and Military Vicar of the Armed Forces of the United States describes his activities and reactions during a 46,000-mile air journey made last year to the British Isles, Spain and Portugal, the Vatican City, the Near East and many parts of Africa. The author confines himself largely to personal and pastoral matters, though occasionally he ventures into the field of politics, as in the case of Spain.
