Major Monaghan was, before the war, professor of history at Yale. In this first volume of a projected series he traces, in clear and simple prose, the course of history during the "long Armistice" from 1918 to 1939 and through the Second World War up to December 1942. In addition to the author's skilfully woven text, there are many illustrations, a chronology and a section of maps.
