Pipeline to Battle
Pipeline to Battle
By Major Peter W. Rainier
Random House, 1943, 302 pp.

This is one of the better war books. The author, an engineer by profession but a writer by avocation, participated in the Libyan campaigns of Wavell and Montgomery. Among other things he laid and operated the pipeline which, by supplying fresh water to the British forces, helped defeat Rommel at the gates of Egypt.
