Japanese Militarism: Its Cause and Cure

By John M. Maki
Knopf, 1945
258 pp. $3.00

The author, an American of Japanese ancestry, obtained part of his education in Japan. Though his study does not make for exciting reading, it gives a sound explanation of how the Japanese feudal and military caste came to enjoy their current position of power. Contrary to the title, he does not make clear what remedial measures he thinks necessary except to stress that they must be thorough and drastic.
