The Future of Japan

By William C. Johnstone
Oxford University Press, 1945
162 pp. $2.00

The author of this timely and thoughtful book is Dean of the School of Government at George Washington University and a leading American authority on Far Eastern affairs. He explains what he believes to be the steps which must be taken to effect the reforms in Japan's political, economic and cultural structure necessary for her readmission to polite society. He has tried to keep his proposed program within the limits of minimum requirements rather than risk failure by trying to do too much.
