Iran
By William S. Haas
Columbia University Press, 1946, 273 pp

This very superior book is one of the best to appear on the Middle East in several years. The author, a noted German philosopher and educator, served for five years prior to 1940 as adviser to the Persian Ministry of Education. With his wide and intimate knowledge of the Islamic world, Dr. Haas has been able to place the evolution of modern Iran in its proper perspective. His authoritative survey covers cultural, social and economic developments as well as recent political history.
