This is a good example of the current Spanish variation on the theme of geopolitics. The author does not cover the whole world systematically but concentrates instead on certain areas, interesting for strategic or other reasons, such as Russia (which receives nearly 100 pages), North Africa, the Trans-Saharan Railway and Dakar, Egypt and the Suez Canal, Turkey, the routes to India, the islands of the East Indies and Australasia, etc. The text is illustrated with 110 maps, 121 figures and numerous tables.
