The German People

By Veit Valentin
Knopf, 1946
730 pp. $6.00

Professor Valentin obliges his readers to wade through a lengthy, old-fashioned political history of Germany in which small appreciation is evinced of social and economic factors. The second half of the book is given over to the period since the time of Frederick the Great. The author left Germany and went into exile shortly after Hitler took power.
