Miss Fire

By Jasper Rootham

Chatto and Windus, 1946, 224 pp.

Colonel Rootham parachuted into Serbia on a mission to Mihailovich in May 1943. This is his record of that unsuccessful attempt to keep the Chetniks in the field as an effective force against the Germans. He reveals the many appalling difficulties under which Mihailovich operated and presents evidence of the propaganda devices by which the Nazis largely nullified Chetnik activities or deflected them against the Partisans.
