Austrian Requiem
Austrian Requiem
By Kurt Von Schuschnigg
Putnam, 1946, 322 pp.

The former Chancellor of Austria begins his story with his interview at Berchtesgaden with Hitler on February 12, 1938, and carries it down to his liberation by American troops from seven years of Nazi imprisonment on May 4, 1945. Part of the book was written in prison and as a diary. The impression of Schuschnigg's narrow and backward-looking political credo, evinced in his previous work, "My Austria" (1938), is here confirmed, along with his personal integrity and religious sincerity.
