I Saw Poland Betrayed

By Arthur Bliss Lane
Bobbs-Merrill, 1948
344 pp. $3.50

Mr. Lane was American Ambassador in Poland from July 1945 to early in 1947, when he resigned in order to be free to tell his countrymen about what was going on behind the Iron Curtain. He went to Warsaw disliking the Communists, and the longer he stayed the more he disliked them. This is an angry book, well-informed but presenting only a few of the facets of the postwar situation in Poland.
