Maanpakolaisen Muistelmia
By Oskari Tokoi
Tammi, 1947, 359 pp

The interesting reminiscences of one of Finland's working-class leaders. Following the general strike of 1905, Tokoi was elected to the country's new diet, later serving as chairman of the Social Democratic parliamentary group. Upon the outbreak of the civil war, he became Prime Minister of the short-lived Finnish Workers' Republic; in 1918 he fled to Russia and soon became one of the leaders of the famed Finnish Murmansk Legion. After being denounced by both the Communists and the Finnish Government as a traitor, Tokoi emigrated to the United States by way of Canada.
