The author, onetime Rumanian Foreign Minister, is already known for his "Prelude to the Russian Campaign," published in 1945. The original French edition of the present work appeared in 1946. In it Gafencu recites his impressions of European events and personages gained on a diplomatic tour before the war in 1939.
