The Stilwell Papers

By Joseph W. Stilwell
Sloane, 1948
357 pp. $4.00

This posthumous work was fashioned by Theodore H. White out of the General's notes, journals and letters for the period from 1941 to 1944 (when he was relieved of his command of the CBI Theater). His pungent remarks on many personages, notably Chiang Kai-shek, show that he came honestly by his nickname "Vinegar Joe."
