Education for a New Japan

By Robert King Hall
Yale University Press, 1949
503 pp. $6.00

Professor Hall of Teachers College, Columbia, was one of the top educational officers of SCAP and knows the Japanese school system intimately. He very much doubts that the reforms put into effect under MacArthur will touch the basically authoritarian and chauvinistic nature of Japanese educational philosophy and expresses disappointment at the failure to romanize the written language of Japan.
