Recent items of Gandhiana. The abridged edition of Gandhi's "The Story of My Experiments with Truth" (reviewed here in January 1949) retains the narrative chapters, but omits those containing his reflections and disquisitions. Mr. Iyengar, an Indian journalist, has written his reminiscences over the years 1915 to 1950. Mr. Catlin has performed a political philosopher's pilgrimage in the form of a travel diary and thinks to have found the answer to many of his questions in the life and thought of the late Indian leader. Of the two biographies, Mr. Fischer's is at its best in direct reportage; as an interpretation it leaves many questions unanswered. Herr Mühlmann's study is briefer, flatter, more systematically organized and is directed toward the problems of the sociology of religion and political ethics.
