Faces in the Crowd
Faces in the Crowd
By David Riesman
Yale University Press, 1952, 751 pp

Continuing the work begun in "The Lonely Crowd" (noted here July 1951) to develop a scheme for the understanding of "character, politics and society" in America, Professor Riesman here presents 20 portraits of individuals to illustrate some of the facets of the American character in its social and political setting. Although the book deals with individuals the aim is still that of arriving at certain generalizations about American society.
