Harold Laski (1893-1950)

Viking, 1953, 278 pp

This friendly biography concentrates on Laski's political activities from the late '30's until his death in 1950. There are interesting sidelights on history and some illuminating letters to and from Laski, including an excellent statement by Attlee of the differences between them, but the most memorable passages depict Laski as a teacher. A good final assessment couples his great influence with failure to fulfill his scholarly promise or to achieve what he wanted in politics.
