Middle East Dilemmas

By J. C. Hurewitz
Harper (for the Council on Foreign Relations), 1953
273 pp. $3.75

A concise and objective discussion of the origins and growth of American interest and responsibilities in the Middle East, with particular chapters devoted to Iran, Egypt, the Arab-Israel area, Turkey and economic and technical assistance. In Mr. Hurewitz's view this is not a region in which the United States has "excelled in solid accomplishments" and the future promises to be exceedingly difficult and trying.
